Lane Washington

Dr. Lane Washington serves as the senior advisor to the vice chancellor for student affairs. In his role, he serves as the strategic advisor to the vice chancellor and Student Affairs Leadership Team. Additionally, he provides leadership and direction for the development, coordination, and execution of priorities, programs and initiatives for the vice chancellor. Dr. Washington is also currently serving as interim assistant vice chancellor and oversees the Engagement, Community and Belonging team with a focus on creating a campus experience and environment where all students feel seen, connected and included. 

Prior to CU, Dr. Washington worked at the University of Florida where he served as a leader in student engagement, K-12 access initiatives, multicultural affairs, leadership development and community learning. He has also spent time focusing on graduate student success, global engagement and retention programs, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at Florida State University and The Ohio State University. Prior, he spent time in the nonprofit sector focused on community transformation. Dr. Washington also served as a graduate affiliate faculty member focusing on higher education and student affairs, multicultural education, and administration. His research interests and scholarship focus on race, ethnicity and social justice. 

Dr. Washington received his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University and his bachelor’s (Business Marketing) and doctoral degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University.
